Baking at the holidays is always fun. I'll bake a few extras of my favorite things and put a variety on a small plate for my "most favorite" customers. They appreciate the personal touch--the gift is from me to them, not my company to theirs. It seems to solidify the relationship.

Claudia, This makes so much sense. Sometimes we try to be so all-encompassing with our elevator speech that we end us confusing our listeners so much they don't even know what additional questions to ask. Keeping it simple and conversational will help inspire the questions we're looking for. I'm rewriting my elevator speech right now. Thank you!

Linda, listening to others is a great way to learn. By asking the question you will hear responses that impress you and some that may not. Evaluate what impressed you and then incorporate it in your response to the question.

This is so to the point. It should be simple, should it not? And if we don't know how to answer, in a friendly conversational sort of way, the typically American question, "What do you do?" one might wonder if we are doing what we are truly called to do.

This sounds like a good assignment, Claudia. I'm going to start surprising myself with the question, "What do you do?" in as many places as I can. And I think I'll start truly listening to others when I ask them!
